Created in 1962 between three Local Authorities, Counties Furniture Group set out to design and arrange for the supply of high quality classroom furniture for schools, at an affordable price.

Since this time the Group has grown to 80 local authority members each with their own nominated representative.

CFG is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and controlled entirely by its Local Authority members.

The development of new furniture ranges provides an increasingly wide choice of well designed, reliable and flexible products, colour co-ordinated to create diverse and integrated learning spaces.

The Groups product ranges are manufactured under publicly procured framework agreements, procured ensuring quality manufacture and supply with best value prices.

Orders are placed by member authorities and their schools directly with the Group's contracted manufacturers, without any additonal central administration charges and prices including delivery are the same for all members on the UK mainland.

CFG is funded by royalties derived from sales of its product designs.

The Group’s main functions are undertaken by a full-time Design Team located at Shropshire County Council who, together with Supplies, Legal and Financial support from other member officers are responsible for:

  • Research

  • Standards development

  • Product design

  • Advice on product selection and material specification

  • Tendering and contracts

  • Manufacturer supervision and product development

  • Member liaison

  • Price list, web site and information provision

  • Partnership working

  • Furniture Services - layouts and scheduling (FREE to members for education institutions)

  • Contract documentation (furniture specification) for Building Schools for the Future projects.
